How difficult is the hike to Lago di Sorapis?

The hike is of moderate difficulty and requires some surefootedness, especially the rocky sections which can be a bit thrilling. Thanks to the steel cables, these areas are well secured. In wet or snowy conditions, you should exercise extra caution or consider postponing the hike. The total duration of the hike is about 4 hours (round trip) and covers 400 meters of elevation gain – perfect for a day hike with breathtaking views!

Do I need special gear for the hike?

Sturdy hiking shoes are a must. Trekking poles are especially recommended for the descents. No via ferrata sets are needed for the secured sections.

Is swimming allowed in Lago di Sorapis?

Swimming is not allowed in Lago di Sorapis, as it is a protected mountain lake.

Is there an easier alternative route to the top?

Yes, you can take the slightly longer, but less exposed route via Val d’Ansiei (path no. 217). This route avoids the rocky sections, but is about 1 hour longer.

Can I visit Lago di Sorapis in the winter as well?

Access in winter is only recommended for experienced mountain hikers with the right gear (crampons, ice axe). The paths are not cleared and can be partly icy. The mountain hut is also closed in winter.
